Filament Compatibility Notice

The TINA2S is specifically optimized for 1.75mm filament and is not compatible with 2.85mm (or 3mm) materials.
This is determined by three key design factors:

1️⃣ Feeding System: The feed tube and gear are designed for 1.75mm filament — 2.85mm simply cannot pass through the mechanism.
2️⃣ Hotend Design: The inner diameter of the hotend and nozzle precisely match 1.75mm filament; using a larger diameter will cause extrusion instability or clogging.
3️⃣ Firmware Parameters: Feeding speed, stepper motor settings, and temperature control are all calibrated for the characteristics of 1.75mm materials.

Currently, about 85% of consumer FDM printers use the 1.75mm standard, offering a wide selection of materials at reasonable prices while ensuring optimal performance on the TINA2S.

FAQS

Beginner’s Guide

1️⃣ Dry Before Use: Dry the filament at 50°C for 8 hours (or on a 60–70°C heated bed for 12 hours) for optimal surface quality and consistency.
2️⃣ Filament Change: Heat the nozzle for a few minutes before unloading, then feed the new filament through the extruder into the tube.
3️⃣ Recommended Materials: PLA, PLA+, or TPU perform best on a 60°C build plate, ensuring high success rates and near-ABS-level strength.

PLA and other 3D printing materials are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the air. Improper storage after opening can result in poor print quality.

① Short-term storage (within 1–2 weeks): It’s fine to leave the filament on the printer, but make sure to secure the loose end in the spool hole when not in use to prevent tangling.

② Medium-term storage (several weeks to a few months): Store the filament in its original bag or a sealed bag with desiccant (preferably silica gel), and remove as much air as possible before sealing.

③ Long-term storage (more than a few months): Use a professional dry box or vacuum bag with plenty of desiccant, and store it in a cool, dry place.

④ Managing multiple spools: Label each spool with the opening date and material type, and follow the “first opened, first used” principle.

⑤ Dealing with moisture-absorbed filament: If you notice bubbles, stringing, or popping sounds while printing, your filament has absorbed moisture. Dry it using a food dehydrator or a filament dryer at 45–50°C for 4–6 hours to restore quality.

The ideal storage environment is 15–25°C with a relative humidity below 40%. Following these steps can extend the usable life of PLA filament from 2–3 weeks to over 6 months after opening.

Using third-party filaments does come with certain risks, but these can be minimized through proper selection and testing.

First, dimensional consistency: high-quality filaments should maintain a diameter tolerance within ±0.03mm, while some third-party products may fluctuate up to ±0.1mm, leading to unstable feeding, inconsistent extrusion, and print failures.

Second, material purity: premium PLA contains fewer additives and has consistent melting behavior, while low-quality filament may include impurities that frequently cause nozzle clogging.

Third, temperature characteristics: even within the same material type, the optimal printing temperature can vary by 10–15°C between brands, requiring re-testing for the best result.

Finally, mechanical performance: the strength and toughness of filaments can differ by 20–30% between brands, even for the same material type.

To minimize risks, it’s recommended to choose reputable third-party brands with quality assurance; check for diameter tolerance labeling (±0.03mm is a good standard); read customer reviews before purchasing; and print a small test model to adjust parameters when using a new brand.
Using third-party filament will not void the TINA2S warranty, but any damage caused by low-quality material (such as nozzle clogging) may not be covered under warranty.

3D printing supports sustainability in four key ways:

First, it reduces material waste. Traditional subtractive manufacturing (like CNC) typically achieves 30–40% material utilization, whereas 3D printing can exceed 90%. Waste from PLA and other filaments can also be recycled and reused.

Second, it extends product lifecycle. By printing replacement parts, products avoid being discarded entirely, reducing electronic and plastic waste.

Third, it optimizes the supply chain. Localized production lowers transportation-related carbon emissions, and digital inventories help prevent overproduction.

Finally, it enables environmentally friendly material choices. TINA2S primarily uses PLA, a renewable resource derived from corn starch that is biodegradable and non-toxic, making it more eco-friendly than traditional plastics like ABS.

Studies show that in small-batch production, 3D printing can reduce the carbon footprint by approximately 25–40% compared to traditional manufacturing. Looking ahead, we are exploring even more sustainable materials, such as recycled plastics and plant-based fibers.
